Don’t Be Late for the Run and Skate in Chamonix

ID: 1554468

In February 2018, Chamonix is hosting its annual “Run and Skate” event, an epic winter competition that combines trail running with cross country skiing.

(IINews) - On the hunt for your next winter adventure with your friends? Look no further! This February, travel from Geneva to Chamonix and attend the eleventh “Run and Skate” event. It is going to be epic.

What is ‘Run and Skate’?

The “Run and Skate” is an annual competition in Chamonix that combines two terrific winter sports: cross country skiing and trail running. Travelling through the mythic snow-covered forests of Chamonix and Argentière, it’s the only race of its kind. You can admire the beautiful views as you conquer this challenge solo, or share the experience with your friends as you team up to form a relay. It is definitely worth the trip from London to Geneva and then from Geneva to Chamonix!

Events at “Run and Skate”

With four races to choose from, the competition caters to skiers and runners of all abilities. Available events include:

•Individual: a single competitor does both the 11km running trail and the 14km cross country skiing route.
•Relay Team: one competitor covers the 14km of cross country skiing while another does the 11km run (this is a team event, so the clock keeps ticking during the transition period).
•Discovery: for a taster, this 6km ski route and 4.5km run is a good introductory event.
•Trail Blanc: competitors run 12km only (this race doesn’t include any skating).

Though the individual race is a true test of personal stamina, I’d recommend the relay. It’s a great experience to share with your best pals.

A Terrific Atmosphere

This competition continues to grow in popularity, attracting runners and skiers from all over the world, as well as crowds of local spectators. The cheers from these supporters create a brilliant and lively atmosphere. They are spread out along the course, offering great encouragement. The most thrilling moment though, is crossing the finish line behind the Ski de Fond chalet with the roaring crowd egging you on.

When Can I Go?

Hopefully you’re totally psyched to do it now! Starting at the Maison Nordique in Chamonix, the event will be held on Saturday, February 24th 2018 from 8:45am until 1pm.

Entries for the individual event is €30, while a relay entry is €56 per team. This registration fee includes refreshments, a warm shower and a delicious meal at Poêle Géante. If you have friends who don’t want to race but just want to watch, spectator tickets are €13. You’ll need to book tickets online.
