In the 2015/2016 winter season, the renowned racing team from Switzerland will be at the start in the Asian Le Mans Series. The team aims to win the title and with that one of the highly coveted authorizations for a start at the legendary 24 hours race in Le Mans.
“It''s a great feeling to be back in endurance racing”, explains Michel Frey. The experienced team boss, who still was at the wheel of a race car last year himself, is full of optimism. “In the past month, the complete team did everything to let the commitment in the Asian Le Mans Series come true. A huge thank you goes especially to all of our partners.”
For the season opener at the Fuji circuit in Japan (October, 10th to 11th) team Race Performance has put together a powerful package. The wheel of the ambitious teams LMP2 racer is shared by the Swiss ''Niki'' Leutwiler and local hero Shinji Nakano. The former Formula 1 driver belongs to the most popular race drivers of Japan. The season opener in Fuji is a home race for the Japanese.
The schedule of the Asian Le Mans Series covers altogether four racing weekends in the eastern region. After the first weekend in Fuji, the series moves to the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia (November, 7th to 8th). From January 8th to 10th all drivers and teams are away in Buriram, Thailand, before the season final of the endurance series takes place in Malaysia again.
The participation in Asian Le Mans Series is of very special importance for the team Race Performance. “The winner of the championship automatically receives a starting permission for the Le Mans 24 hours race in 2016”, explains team manager Michel Frey. The return to the most famous endurance race in the world is the main goal of Race Performance. The squad from Switzerland competed and also finished in the French classic already five times.
